Watch Your Time
By: Amidon Jewelers
In much of the United States, Daylight Saving Time will begin on Sunday, March 10. At precisely 2:00am, the official time will in fact be moved forward an hour to 3:00am, causing a loss of one hour of sleep for those of us already in bed. While we might not like waking what feels like an hour earlier for work on Monday morning, our children, no doubt, love the fact that their room may still be lit by sunlight when they go to bed.
Originally conceived by Benjamin Franklin in 1784, he wrote about it in an essay called, “An Economical Project.” After attending a demonstration of a new type of oil lamp, Franklin suggested Daylight Saving Time as a means of conserving energy and natural resources. Even today, the amount spent on additional lighting needed in the morning hour is greatly offset by the amount saved in the evening with an additional hour of sunlight.
With all the technology advances we have seen since 1784, some may find it amusing that it’s easier to lose track of time now than ever before. The invention and increased functionality of the cell phone have nearly eliminated the need for a watch, except for when increased App usage kills our battery and our phone dies. Amidon Jewelers is not ready to say goodbye to the wrist watch, however, and encourage you to take your time into your own hands with a watch from our beautiful selection.
We may not want more Winter, but who wouldn’t want this beautiful Bulova Wintermoor Collection watch? Designed with stainless steel, eight diamonds and a white leather band, this watch isn’t just gorgeous but multifunctional as well.
This women’s Citizen Eco-Drive Riva watch may just be beautiful enough to make you ditch your iPhone 5… For time-keeping purposes at least. With a contemporary bracelet design, this watch is embellished with a 24-Diamond case and is water-resistant to 100 meters. Can you say the same about your cell phone?
With both 12 and 24 hour time tracking, maximum depth memory AND depth display to 125 feet, men who love deep water sports will undoubtedly enjoy the benefits of this watch. The Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Depth Master Chronograph is water-resistant to 200-feet, and unlike your cell phone, could probably survive a washing in the laundry after returning from your deep-sea trip.
As Daylight Saving Time takes effect in the next couple of weeks, Amidon Jewelers encourages you to schedule outings that take full advantage of your extra hour of sunshine. Whether an evening out with friends, or a long overdue vacation, we have the perfect time-pieces to adorn your wrist and keep you fashionably on-time and accessorized.
