Did we mention that we will be offering ALTERNATIVE choices during our upcoming wedding band event? Did you know that there are all kinds of a non-traditional materials being used to create wedding bands? With these new alternative materials being incorporated in the creation of today’s wedding bands, your choices are nearly endless!
Alternative metals have been a popular choice for wedding bands for quite some time now, but not everyone is aware of these super fun, personal and creative choices. There are many different reasons to consider a wedding band created from alternative materials including hypoallergenic properties, scratch resistance and uniqueness just too name a few. Also if you work with your hands and want your ring to keep its like new look, these alternative metal wedding bands are often a fantastic choice as well.
Some of the popular metals you will be able to choose from include:
Tungsten, a hard metal, more durable than a precious metal but makes a good substitute as it has a similar weight. It’s also extremely scratch resistant so your ring will look like new for a long time! Tungsten does not bend and lose its shape, it has more of a brittle property. So in the case of an emergency in which the ring needed removed, a vice like tool is used to shatter the ring in a manner that is completely safe to the wearer. Tungsten is hypoallergenic so if you have a metal allergy this is a good alternative.
Colbalt looks more like white gold or platinum, event more so than other alternative metals. So, if you want that white gold precious metal look without the price, this is a good choice. Cobalt is extremely strong and has a good resistance to scratching and chipping. This metal can be cut off but would need to be done so in two places as its cannot be bent like gold which is a much softer metal.
Carbon Fiber is not actually a metal at all but is a combination of several thin fibers that are bonded and twisted together. It is one of the lightest style of rings available but even though very light and comfortable to wear, they are also very strong. Carbon fiber is actually used a lot in space craft due to its lightness and is a very modern “metal”.
Ceramic is also a popular choice for a wedding band and can be created in any color. We have a selection of “black diamond ceramic” rings at our store. You will find a selection of bands bands that are an alternative metal mixed with a zirconium based ceramic to create a hard, scratch resistant ring. Ceramic is lightweight and smooth, a nice choice for someone who wants a comfortable durable band
Zirconium is the only permanent black metal that is workable enough to allow for the setting of gemstones. In many gent’s bands created from Zirconium, you can find styles that include black diamonds. Zirconium is shatterproof but can be cut off the finger in two parts if necessary. Zirconium is a smooth look that is often paired with gold and patterns to create a unique look.
